The gap between two world views

imageThere are basically two world views that are in competition today. Creationism and evolution. While we as Christians know the truth of creation, arguing the fact with ignorant people can be pointless. However, when evolution came on the scene as a major player threatening to abolish God as creator in or schools, government, and minds, Christians felt the need to “reinvent the wheel” so to speak, and develop a theory that would totally debunk evolution. This theory, however, has back fired against us bringing contradictions between scientific evidence and the word of God. This in turn helped give evolutionary activists the fuel they needed to start their fire. This theory is called the six day creation.

In answer to the theory of evolution came the six day creation theory that the heavens and the earth, as well as its inhabitants, were created in 6 literal days. However, if we take what we know about God and develop our theory based on the whole of scripture we arrive at a different synopsis. Don’t take me wrong. I am not trying to allegorize the scriptures in saying that the six days of creation were not six 24 hour days. I know by the rest of scripture that they absolutely were. So what am I trying to say? What I am getting at is that between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2 there is a definite gap in time. This theory has been embraced by the church since the first century and has only recently been overran by the six day theory to debunk the fallacy of evolution.

Scientific Argument

The bible says in Genesis 1:1 that in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth, period. Nothing more needs to be said. Notice the period in the verse. That is the end of that point. The beginning was just that, the beginning. It was millions of years ago when God first created the earth and we fast forward in time to Genesis 1:2. The evidence that the earth is older than 6500 years old is everywhere in creation. We have carbon dating evidence that shows matter that is millions of years old on the earth. Even the evidence of the flood was carbon dated to the exact time frame given in the bible by the layer where different fossils have been found. The theory that the earth was created on day one does not hold any weight with science.

Theological Argument

The next argument we have is one of the character of God. Genesis 1:2 tells us that the earth was without form and void. More specifically, it tells us that ‘Now‘ the earth was without form and void, meaning at the time God decided to create the inhabitants of the earth. God is perfect in all his ways. How then can a perfect God, who is perfect in all his ways, create an earth that is without form and void. The obvious answer is that he can’t. It is against his very character. God who is perfect in all his ways simply cannot create something that is less than that, perfect. We must then look for a different explanation because the six day creation just doesn’t fit the text.

The Great War

In Isaiah chapter 14, as well as Ezekiel chapter 28 and Revelation, the bible speaks of the Great War in heaven. Lucifer who was the greatest of all God’s creations, rebelled against God and persuaded 1/3 of the angels in heaven to join with him in overthrowing God. Him and his angels were cast down to the earth and the earth which was once beautiful and perfect was destroyed. The devil who is the God of this world, as Jesus called him, took his dominion of this world and later usurped that authority by deceiving Eve. How else could Satan offer the earth and its kingdoms to Jesus during his temptation in the wilderness if the dominion was not his to give?

Truth is…

the earth is old, very old. Dinosaurs were real. And they are as old as science says they are. So does that give evolution the upper hand? Absolutely not! It gives the bible and creationism the most credible evidence in existence. Why do I say that? Because it is written. The dinasaurs, the war in heaven, and the age of the earth are all written in the pages of scripture. We must read the bible in its entirety taking everything into account before we try to defend it against the world system. We must not merely read into one section of scripture and then create a doctrine to use against false teaching. When we do that we create false doctrine ourselves and give deceivers the edge in battle. God gave us the entire bible for a reason. Read it in its entirety.
